When most believers in Yeshua Hamishiach, Jesus the Christ, think about the Power of Pentecost they think about the Pentecostal Out-pour of the Holy Ghost on the Day of Pentecost in Acts 2:1. And while that's definitely a note-worthy reference to the power of Pentecost, there's another note-worthy reference to the Power of Pentecost, in addition the Out-pour of the Holy Ghost on that day, and it is the Gathering of Jews from every nation under heaven to the city of Jerusalem of the Feast of Pentecost or Feast of Weeks/Shavuot, in Acts 2:5
There was a gathering to Jerusalem that is note-worthy to the end of the age believer, because of the restoration of the nation of Israel, and of the city of Jerusalem. There will be another gathering of Jews to Jerusalem for the return of their Messiah. To be prepared for the return of the Lord, we must understand the purpose and power of the Holy Ghost in the season of the Feasts to regather His people to Jerusalem.
THE POWER OF THE HOLY GHOST TO GATHER JEWS TO JERUSALEM IN THE LAST DAYS
The initial power of the Holy Ghost was significant for what was coming with the destruction of Jerusalem and the scattering of the Jews in 70 AD. However, the end of age power of the Holy Ghost will be significant for what's coming with the regathering of the Jews back to the land at the end of age.
Acts 2:5 says, Now there was dwelling in Jerusalem were Jews devout men from every nation under Heaven.
They gathered there from every nation under heaven for the feast of Pentecost. And in that gathering to those feasts were holy convocations, where they were to commemorate what God did in Israel's past, but they were also to look forward to their coming Messiah to the city of Jerusalem to overthrow their enemies and restore the kingdom to Israel.
Those that would gather to Jerusalem as a practice, not only to commemorate, but to prepare for their Messiah to come, they would be in the right place at the right time to receive His spirit, when He came. These Jews were in the city of Jerusalem when the Holy Spirit was unexpectedly poured out upon them.
To those 120 in that upper room, the Holy Spirit was unexpectedly poured out upon them. This was the Messiah coming to fulfill Pentecost/Feast of weeks. And it says
Acts 2:6 When this sound occurred the crowd came together and was confounded because every man heard them speaking in his own language. They were all amazed and marveled saying one to another "Are not all these who were speaking Galileans How is it that we hear each in our own native language?"
So, we see all the nations that were there and more in verse 8 all the way down to verse 12. And it says in verse 11.... we hear them speaking in our own language the mighty works of God And they were all amazed and perplexed saying to each other "What does this mean?" Others mocking saying "These men are full of new wine." But Peter standing up with the 11 lifted up his voice and said to them "Men of Judah and all you that dwell in Jerusalem let this be known to you and listen to my words for these are not drunk as you suppose since it is the third hour of the day But this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel in the last days I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh and your sons and daughters shall prophesy.
If you grew up in Pentecost, or Charismatic circles, You know these verses, and you've seen them, heard them, and read them for years. But what you've missed is that they were in Jerusalem for the feast, waiting on the promised Messiah and His coming to restore the Kingdom to Israel. (Acts 1:6-8) And it was only those that were in Jerusalem for the feast that were encountered by the fulfillment of that feast by the Holy Spirit being poured out upon them. That was one of the purposes of the feast; to prepare them to meet their Messiah.
Now the Holy Spirit was given… and when the Holy Spirit was given, now they began the process of the law being revealed to them, to be written on their heart. In other words, the old covenant is the first concealed. And the new covenant was the old covenant revealed. The Holy Spirit was given to reveal what had been concealed in the first covenant. And so, this is what happened on the day of Pentecost.
We're coming upon a feast called Feast of Pentecost/Feast of Shavuot/feast of weeks in a few weeks. And the purpose of the feast is to remember what he did, not just on Mount Zion in Jerusalem, when the Holy Spirit was poured out. But to look forward to what's coming when he returns.
HOW HE WILL RETURN - THE POWER TO BE A WITNESS
Go back to Acts 1:6, So when they came together, they asked him "Lord will you at this time restore the kingdom to Israel?" He said to them "It is not for you to know the times and the dates which the Father has fixed by his own authority, but you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you shall be witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria and to the ends of the earth. And when he has spoken these things while they looked he was taken up and a cloud received him from their sight And while they looked intently toward heaven as he ascended suddenly two men stood by them in white garments And they said "Men of Galilee wise stand looking toward heaven This this same Jesus whom was taken from you to heaven will come in like manner as you saw him go into heaven then they returned to Jerusalem from the Mount of Olives.
