After the civil war and the release of the slaves the era of reconstruction and the promise of land, and that which the slaves would need to live and make a living was revoked....our ancestors were never given that which they were promised in reconstruction...but not only that, but after 400 years of building this nation we weren't even given the rights and freedoms of the constitution...ALL THE WAY UP TO MY LIFETIME.
It wasn't until 1963 and the Civil rights bill that we began to be given the freedoms and rights as full citizens...all the way from 1863...And while God has graced us America has never really acknowledged or made any attempt to compensate the descendants of the slaves for all the inequities of these hundreds of years since the declaration of Independence declared us ONE NATION, UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE WITH LIBERTY & JUSTICE FOR ALL.
I don't believe this discussion should be a political football tossed around for political expediency. I'm against it being labeled and attributed to one party or another for votes. I believe Americans of all parties and races should undertake and understand the discussion of reparations as an acknowledgment of that which was unfairly and unjustly withheld from our ancestors, and consequently the centuries of slavery couple with over one hundred years inequities and injustices committed against a whole race of people, have contributed to the present trauma and state of our people.
YES, we must look to God, and we have. YES we must look within.YES we must help ourselves...but for all our ancestors did to make America what it is today, there should also be understanding, acknowledgement and culpability for our plight and present state, to some way, somehow compensate the descendants of those slaves that were not given what was promised and what other immigrants received upon entering this nation.
That's how I see this after much prayer and deliberation on this issue as it has been tossed into the political arena in this election cycle. And I believe one way you can know whether your politics and political party has become your religion is whether you automatically come down on the same side of the party you most identify with on every issue....even when it goes against Gods revealed word.
I believe this is not only is an equitable solution to this issue, but this is biblical and God-like solution...When the children of Israel was delivered by God after 400 years of Egyptian Slavery, God did not send them out empty handed. He commanded them to demand of their neighbors, gold, silver, purple, etc on their way out. They went out with the wealth of Egypt. Why? Because they had worked for 400 years without a wage, in slavery, building Pharaoh's pyramids.
But God made sure they had reparations for their labor before He delivered them....The fact that the reconstruction Era attempted to give our ancestors some reparations and it was struck down and reversed and never given by the southern Democrats in Congress in 1875 is definitely something that needs to be revisited, and requited in some way to the descendants that have been effected to this day.
I don't know what it should look like. I don't know how it should be carried out, but I do feel is something that should be figured out for race relations to be healed and reconciled.
