OVERCOMING THE SPIRIT OF JEZEBEL IN THIS GENERATION
Rev 2:18 "And to the angel of the church in Thyatira write: 'The words of the Son of God, who has eyes like a flame of fire, and whose feet are like burnished bronze.
19 "I know your works, your love and faith and service and patient endurance, and that your latter works exceed the first.
20 But I have this against you, that you tolerate that woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and is teaching and seducing my servants to practice sexual immorality and to eat food sacrificed to idols.
21 I gave her time to repent, but she refuses to repent of her sexual immorality.
22. Behold, I will throw her onto a sickbed, and those who commit adultery with her I will throw into great tribulation, unless they repent of her works…29. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. (ESV)
What is the spirit of Jezebel? Who is Jezebel and why is it important that we overcome her?
What connection does this spirit have with the current moral and social crisis that this generation is experiencing in its emerging expression of perverted sexuality?
The spirit of Jezebel is at the center of this generations attempt to liberate our nation and world from all godly expressions of human sexuality.
It is actually all an evil, sinister agenda and ploy to mock God. Jezebel hides her agenda to mock God through perverted sexuality in terms like feminism, tolerance and
marriage equality. But it’s all a ploy to mock God.
Liberated sexuality is how she hides perversion. It’s the religion of this generation. Just drive down the strip of any major city and you will see her church buildings – strip clubs - lined up and down those blocks, several on every strip.
The religion of Jezebel is the religion of sex – sex with a purpose. It is sex that defiles individuals that were made in the image of God, and it is meant to mock their creator. (1)
Without question, the spirit of Jezebel has launched an offensive against today’s generation to confuse the sexuality of this age and to take down the purity of this generation, imprisoning them in lifestyles of immorality.
Why Today? Why this Generation?
But why today? Bob Sorge, in his book, “A Covenant with My Eyes” says, it has to do with how natural history will end. Revelation 14:1, 4-5 bears this out, saying;
Rev 14:1 Then I looked, and behold, on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, and
with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on
their foreheads….4 It is these who have not defiled themselves with women, for they are virgins. It is these who follow the Lamb wherever he goes.
These have been redeemed from mankind as first fruits for God and the Lamb, 5 and in their mouth no lie was found, for they are blameless….8 Another angel, a second, followed, saying, "Fallen, fallen is Babylon the great, she who made all nations drink the wine of the passion of her sexual immorality.
God’s archenemy doesn’t want this generation of consecrated virgins to arise in the earth. Why? Because their faithfulness to God in the area of their sexuality and commitment to his principles and standards of
morality will contribute to the events that precipitate the return of
Jesus Christ to the earth (2 Peter 3:12).
The context of the return of
Israel’s Messiah to the earth
The context of the return of
Israel’s Messiah to the earth is the spirit of Jezebel making the nations
drunk off of sexual immorality. The spirit of Jezebel is directly connected to the great whore of Babylon described in Revelation 14:8, and Revelation 17:1-2, which is a system of perversion and corruption
established to entrap the generation of the Lord’s return in a snare of
evil and darkness, inhibiting them from recognizing, desiring and
accepting the Lord’s Messiah and his coming Kingdom of righteousness,
peace and joy in the earth.
When you see this system of Babylon falling in Rev. 14:8, being directly connected to the nations being drunken off of her sexual immorality, you know this generation is spiraling downward towards the end of the age and a great release of God’s
judgment on the earth.
How do we overcome this spirit in order to avoid the great collapse
along with the Great Whore of Babylon? How does the church stand
against sexual immorality in the midst of a generation being deceived in their sexuality and anesthetized against immorality? We must know
what we’re fighting against. And we must know our weapons
Deliverance from the Spirit of Jezebel
The ultimate blueprint for deliverance from the spirit of Jezebel lies within the scriptures. The spirit of Jezebel is more than sexual perversion. Sexual perversion is simply one of the outgrowths, leaves or physical signs that this powerful spiritual entity is in control in a particular region or nation in the earth.
The Word of God and the biblical history of the nation of Israel is where the biblical personality, Jezebel, is first presented and it is where we are shown how Israel defeated this Queen from a heathen nation that had intermarried and intermingled with the kingdom of Israel, through her marriage to King Ahab in I Kings 16:31.
If we can see how Israel defeated Jezebel, along with her false prophets and false gods of Baal, we can then know how to overcome the Jezebel spirit in our generation.
The Principality of Jezebel
Though Jezebel was an actual biblical personality in scripture, as the
Queen of King Ahab, the spirit of Jezebel represents and correlates in the New Testament scriptures to a false, illegitimate spiritual authority over regions or nations, called Principalities, that control national leaders, and their governing bodies, kings, and presidents, as well as religious, educational, and political institutions in cities and nations.
This ruling spirit or principality influences laws, and ungodly legislation that are passed in regions and nations bringing people under its sway and influence to perversion and dark spiritual forces. This term, Principality is found in the New Testament in Ephesians 6:12, saying, for we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
The word “Principality” comes from the Greek word archē (ar-khay') which means; a commencement, or (concrete) chief (in various applications of order, time, place or rank): - beginning, corner, (at the, the) first (estate), magistrate, power, principle, rule.
This expression of the Jezebel spirit as a principality ruling over regions and nations, has the same aim that the biblical personality Jezebel had during her time in control over the nation of Israel.
She wants to assume illegitimate authority and acceptance of her false gods and of her prophets to control the culture of the kingdom, or governing bodies where she attempts to rule. She did this in the Old Testament by way of manipulation, seduction and sorcery or witchcraft (2Kings 9:5).
Once she manipulates and seduces the governing bodies or leadership over a region or nation, she then passes her laws, and establishes her word and will as the law of the land, and her prophetic voices and her gods as the gods over the region or land. Her gods are the idol gods of Baal that her father, Ethbaal served, the king of the Sidonians.
Elijah and the Defeat of Jezebel
Elijah (Hebrew: אֱל ִי ָּוה ,ּEliyahu, meaning "My God is Yahweh") was a prophet and a wonder-worker in the northern kingdom of Israel during the reign of Ahab (9th century BC), according to the biblical Books of Kings.
According to the Books of Kings, Elijah defended the worship of Yahweh over that of the Canaanite god Baal; he raised the dead, brought fire down from the sky, and was taken up "by a whirlwind." (This means or mechanism of being taken up by a whirlwind is said plainly in 2 Kings chapter 2, first in verse 1 and then in verse 11, while the chariot and horses separated "the two of them," that is, Elijah and Elisha.) In the Book of Malachi, Elijah's return is prophesied "before the coming of the great and terrible day of the Lord," making him a harbinger of the Messiah.
I believe that this prophesied return of Elijah before the coming of the day of the Lord could be speaking of the Church of the Living God, or God’s house of Prayer for all nations, that will pray and shut up heaven that there will be no rain, and open the heavens to release rain, as was seen during Elijah’s prophetic period
(James 5:14-16).
In Judaism Elijah's name is invoked at the weekly Havdalah ritual that marks the end of Shabbat, and Elijah is invoked in other Jewish customs, among them the Passover seder and the Brit milah (ritual circumcision).
He appears in numerous stories and references in the Haggadah and rabbinic literature, including the Babylonian Talmud.
In Christianity the New Testament describes how both Jesus and John the Baptist are compared with Elijah and on some occasions thought by some to be manifestations of Elijah, and Elijah appears with Moses during the Transfiguration of Jesus.
Elijah is described as a great and righteous man of God and one who powerfully preached against the worship of Ba'al.
Elijah shows us how to defeat the spirit of Jezebel with a prophetic word of the Lord, and specific, direct obedience to that word in 1st and 2nd Kings.
1Ki 19:15 And the LORD said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, anoint Hazael to be king over Syria:
1Ki 19:16 And Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over
Israel: and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abelmeholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.
1Ki 19:17 And it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay: and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.
1Ki 19:18 Yet I have left me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.
These verses give specific detail of what’s needed to defeat the spirit of Jezebel.
1. A National/Regional Prophet. v. 15 - (Elisha)
2. A National/Regional Political Leader anointed by the Nations Prophets. v.16
(Jehu)
3. A Pure people of Prayer that have not bowed to Baal (Idols, Jezebel’s political and religious system) v.18; 2Ki 9:32
(Eunuchs - House of Prayer)
